Festivals

Nepal is known as a land of colourful festivals for the tourists. Nepalese celebrate more festivals than there are days in a year. Festivals unite people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Besides God and Goddesses, they worship Earth, Sun, Moon, Parents, Brothers, Cow, Snake, Day, River, Plant, Tool, Weapon, utensils-like as everything. People follow Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and so on religions and there is religious tolerance between them. Some of the major festivals are as follow: Dashain (Asoj-Kartik), Tihar (kartik), Teej (Bhadra), Shivaratri (Falgun), Ram Nawami (Chaitra), Holi (Falgun), Balachaturdeshi (Mangshir), Buddha Jayanyti (Baisakh), Chhath (Kartik-Mangshir) etc. And Indra Jatra, Bisket Jatra, Gai Jatra, Rato Machhindra Nath Jatra, Hari Shanker Jatra, Trishul Jatra etc are the main festivals can be observed in Kathmandu Valley.
